As Wrath and Emilia prepare to determine if anyone tried summoning Pride in the monastery, he tells her that he was tasting Vittoria’s blood to test it for any hints of a demon House she may have aligned herself with, and Vittoria hadn’t. He and Emilia then work together to find the culprit, and along the way, are introduced to a number of his brothers, including Greed, Envy, and Lust, as well as one of the members of Wrath's House, Anir. He claims he is searching for a bride for his brother Pride, and that their interests align in that they both need the witches alive. He forms something of an alliance with Emilia. When Wrath gets out, it's just in time to save her from dying of a bite from the Viperidae. During this time, Emilia continues trying to solve the mystery of her sister's murder.

Wrath remains trapped in the protection circle for three days. It will also allow him to sense when she's in danger. He tells her it will alert other demons that she is a temporary member of House Wrath and thus under his protection. He wants Emilia to form a blood bond with him. Wrath is first introduced when Emilia performs a spell to summon a demon to help her break the dark magic that sealed Vittoria's diary. The Horn of Hades, which Emilia and Vittoria had been wearing as their amulets, was actually his wings which the First Witch cursed and hid from him. It's revealed in Kingdom of the Cursed that this was the repercussion of him refusing to help her. Like his six brothers, Wrath was cursed by the First Witch.

In Kingdom of the Wicked, Emilia unwittingly calls him Samael after a Roman prince and the angel of death, not knowing that Wrath is Samael. His relationship with his brothers seems to be strenuous at best.

In the Kingdom of the Cursed, he is revealed to be the king of the Seven Circles. Like his brothers, Wrath is one of the Wicked, or Malvagi.
